What Is Telehealth?

Telehealth uses digital technology to provide a variety of healthcare services. Also known as telemedicine and virtual healthcare, the patient and provider each use an internet-connected device that has a camera, speaker, and microphone. This device may be a smartphone, laptop, or tablet.

Conditions We Can Treat Online

Our certified nurse practitioners (NPs) can diagnose and treat a variety of medical issues online, including:

  • COVID-IgM/IgG 19 Rapid testing
Detection of COVID-19 IgM antibodies may indicate a recent exposure, whereas detection of COVID-19 IgG antibodies may indicate a later stage infection.
  • Abrasions, bruises, and mild lacerations
  • Cold and flu symptoms
  • Coughs, earaches, and sore throats
  • Pink eye (conjunctivitis)
  • Respiratory infections, coughs, and bronchitis
  • Sexually transmitted infections (STIs)
  • Sinus infections, allergies, and nasal congestion
  • Skin conditions
  • Sprains, strains, and other minor injuries
  • Stomach issues like nausea, diarrhea, and vomiting
  • Urinary tract infections (UTIs)

And much more. We can also provide prescription refills, sick notes for work or school, and prescribe travel medications.

Why Choose Telehealth?

The majority of medical issues do not require a physical examination. Virtual healthcare is ideal for patients who:

  • Don’t have easy access to a traditional healthcare setting, such as a doctor’s office or clinic
  • Have an autoimmune disorder
  • Need help managing and/or monitoring a chronic condition like diabetes, high blood pressure, or obesity
  • Require follow-up care
  • Need a prescription refill

Most people relate America’s healthcare crisis to skyrocketing costs. The reality is much deeper than that. Tens of millions of Americans live at least an hour away from the closest healthcare provider. Known as medical deserts, some areas have only a single doctor covering multiple counties. Telemedicine helps bridge the gap, since it allows patients to handle their basic healthcare needs remotely.

How Much Does Telehealth Cost?

Active Wellness Health charges a flat $59 fee for all services. We do not currently accept any form of insurance.

Telehealth FAQ

Here we answer the most frequently asked questions about telehealth.

Is telemedicine safe?

Yes, telemedicine is a safe, effective way to receive high-quality healthcare. More than half of all medical issues do not require a hands-on examination for proper diagnosis and treatment.

Is telehealth new?

Yes and no. In terms of the history of healthcare, yes, telemedicine as we know it today is relatively new. But the concept of remote healthcare dates back to the 1870s. And in remote areas like Alaska, telemedicine has been a reality for decades thanks to radio. What’s more, NASA has relied on telehealth to treat astronauts since the 1960s.

With the proliferation of the internet, providers began to seriously consider virtual medicine as a way to make healthcare more accessible to everyone. It is particularly valuable in rural areas, where millions of people live 100 miles or more from the closest hospital or clinic.

Although it has been around for years, telehealth didn’t start earning major headlines until the COVID-19 pandemic.

What can’t I use telehealth for?

Any condition that requires a hands-on examination cannot be handled in a virtual visit. This includes completing disability, insurance, or workplace safety forms.

Can I use telehealth instead of going to the ER?

Telemedicine is not intended for medical emergencies. In case of emergency, dial 911 or go to closest emergency room.

Can a nurse practitioner prescribe medications?

Yes, nurse practitioners have full prescription authority in the state of Arizona.
